Hitch hiking story #324
Usally when we wait for a ride at a gasstations or highway, we have a fancy sign with our destination on it. Actually you dont need anything more to hitch hike. You just have to hold up your sign and put a questionmark on your face. Thats it!
@ gasstaion in innsbruck-austria:
The second brigitte saw us holding up the sign , she was a bit overwhelmed because she had never picked up a hitch hiker before. She didnt know what to say. So she reacted very instinctively. Alltough she wasnt sure about it she said „yes“. She pulled over and while we were putting our stuff in the back of the car, she slowly realized what she was in for, a five hour drive with two absolute strangers.
Also in the car were her six year old son max and his nanny andrea. maxi was born premature and has a brain defect. The doctors didnt give much hope to brigitte and told her that her son wouldnt be able to do anything. Basically they said maxi would never be able to talk, understand, walk or even hold up his head.
As a mother brigitte didnt want to accept the facts and started fighting for her sons future. After six years of hard work maxi learned to talk about 30 words, is able to understand everything in german as well as in romanian, he can sit up by himself and got better control of his movements. As a support brigitte and maxi have their nanny andrea, a young romanian girl who has a beautiful relationship with maxi and is a big help for the whole family.
Brigitte herself is a half romanian woman who moved to germany as a 14 year old girl. She got pregnant with maxi shortly after she had started a new relationship at the age of 28. Today brigitte is a single mom who still has a good conection to maxis father.
She is open like a book and authentic in every single angle. We shared many intimate stories about all the experiences and lessons in our life….and somehow we became friends. Like good old friends who didnt had the chance to talk for a long time. We are both very positiv about life and this is why we enjoyd our company so much.
In my oppinion she is a truely inspiring person because of her faith, strength and belive.
Every single mom deserves admiration for the hard work but brigitte deserves twice of it.
She did a incredible job so far and i´m pretty sure that she will keep it up in the future.
i´m very proud of you!
All your life you were taught to think in boxes so you could, just by looking at someone have your little first impression. What I love about hitch hiking so much is that people can prove you wrong: these boxes exist but most of the times you don´t really get what you expect.
It was a beautiful, sunny afternoon when we were standing next to the road, across the street from a yummy smelling diner, waiting for a ride. Anything could have happend that day and it wouldn´t have mattered because that day was already perfect as it was. All our previous rides were amazing. We met people with great stories to share, full of joy and positive feelings. So we sat down on our backpacks, ready for a little snack as always, not really in the mood yet to start the whole jumping around with our cardboard sign and attracting people thing again. But the minute i was taking off my funny smelling shoes and about to unwrap my beautiful sandwich, a black, shiny BWM with toned windows and personalized license plates pulled over. I couldn´t believe my eyes. Not only was this the fastest pick up in a long time but also a very unexpected one and by far one of the nicest cars we´ve been in, in a long time.
Let me introduce you to Charles, a native Sri Lankan who moved to Norway as a 10 year old. Charles was supposed to become something „respectable“ like a doctor or a lawyer. Instead of being a student and achiving his families goals he decided to follow his passions like dancing and sports. A little later Charles started working for a local company and later on became self employed in the same business. Meanwhile Charles figured out what he liked to do most, sharing his beliefs and life experiences with others.
These beliefs and the path Charles chose for himself made him a wise and very passionate man who is life enhancing for others with his motivational skills and his way of always seing the glas half full. Today Charles leads one of the biggest Aloe Vera companies in the world and does motivational coaching, he is married to his beautiful wife and a very proud father of two amazing boys.
